Designer Sól Hansdóttir is moving away from conventional seasonal runway collections toward what she calls hybrid garments—pieces that sit somewhere between clothing and accessories and can be layered onto an existing wardrobe.

Examples include backless boleros, neckties and apron-like pieces made partly from deadstock materials.

Why it matters

The model challenges one of fashion’s basic assumptions: that novelty requires buying an entirely new outfit.

Smaller batches, flexible sizing and pieces designed for recombination could reduce unsold inventory while still giving customers something visibly new.
